Choosing a platform
What is Shopify, and what does it do?

Shopify gives you a system for presenting products, taking orders and running store tasks. You still need to prepare what you sell and how you fulfil it.
What you get and what you still need
Think of a new clothing store. Shopify can hold the products, sizes and orders, but somebody must enter accurate measurements, connect an eligible payment provider and decide how parcels are dispatched. The theme shapes the presentation; apps may cover additional needs. Before subscribing, write down the daily work your team will do and try it with a sample product. That is a better introduction than assuming the platform builds an operating business from a logo.
Understand the platform role
The system supports catalogue presentation and purchasing workflows. Your theme and configuration determine the customer-facing experience. Required apps, payment eligibility and selling channels should be checked against the current plan and market rather than assumed from a demonstration.
Understand the merchant role
You remain responsible for accurate product information, operational readiness and customer handling. Photography, descriptions and delivery promises need preparation. The platform does not decide which products will sell or approve every external payment account.
Evaluate a practical example
Set up a representative product and walk through selection, checkout and order handling. Ask the person managing the business to try routine updates. This is more informative than choosing solely on a homepage screenshot or a general platform endorsement.
Think of the work it organises
Picture a customer choosing a product and your team receiving, preparing and following up the order. Shopify supplies a platform for parts of that process, with the exact setup depending on your requirements. You still need accurate products, eligible payment arrangements, fulfilment and people responsible for the store.
