How do you decide which Shopify apps to install?
Start with a specific problem, then check what the store already supports. Installing more apps is not a strategy by itself.
Write a reason for each installation
Describe the task and what would count as success. Check the theme and native settings before choosing an extension. Review permissions, current charges, Arabic support and the pages it changes. Try it with your own content and test mobile behaviour. Finally ask what uninstalling removes and whether separate cleanup is needed. Keep an app register so a future editor knows why the tool exists instead of being afraid to remove anything.
Write a small requirement brief
Describe the task, who uses it and how you will judge success. Check whether the theme or Shopify configuration already covers the need. If several apps solve similar problems, compare their actual workflows with your catalogue rather than installing all of them for a trial on the live store.
Review total responsibility
Check current pricing, permissions, support, language compatibility and data handling. Identify which pages the app changes and who will maintain it. Avoid entering customer data into a tool before understanding the required access and your business’s privacy responsibilities.
Plan installation and removal
Test the feature with real content in a controlled setup and review mobile behaviour. Record any theme changes, scripts or external accounts involved. Understand what uninstalling removes and what needs separate cleanup. Keep a simple app register with purpose, owner, recurring charge and review date.
Try the task without another app first
Describe the missing function in plain language, then check the theme and your current setup. If an app is needed, test its customer experience and its removal before relying on it. Someone should own its billing, settings and effect on the store after installation.
