Planning your store
How do you choose a Shopify theme for your brand?

Try your own content in the theme. A demo built around another brand’s photography can make almost any layout look convincing.
A better test than browsing demos
Choose one typical product and one difficult product: a long name, several sizes or unusual image proportions. Preview both on a phone. Can you see the selected size, read the delivery information and browse the photos comfortably? Ask which changes are settings and which need development. This reveals the real fit before a purchase, rather than discovering afterward that the gallery or menu cannot support your catalogue.
What a theme demo should prove
Swipe across the table to see all columns.
| Area | Use your own example |
|---|---|
| Product page | Long title, real photos, several options and an unavailable choice. |
| Collection | Your image proportions, useful labels and the relevant filters. |
| Mobile | Navigation, overlays and the selected state of controls. |
| Arabic | Real text with mixed numbers and English names where applicable. |
| Editing | The owner can perform routine content changes without the demonstration presenter. |
Test a representative catalogue
Use a long product title, multiple photos, size options and a sold-out item. Check whether a collection remains easy to scan with your image proportions. For a bilingual store, review Arabic copy and direction as well. Keep a short scorecard so each candidate is judged against the same requirements.
Distinguish settings from custom work
Some changes are available in the theme editor; others require code or an app. Ask which of your requirements the theme handles directly and which need additional work. Shopify allows previews of themes, and paid Theme Store themes require purchase before publication. Verify licensing for the store that will use it.
Review the editing experience
The owner should understand how to change banners, arrange sections and update product content after handover. Ask for a preview using realistic material rather than approving a blank demo. Check support responsibilities and preserve the current live theme before making a replacement decision.
Use your hardest product in the demo
A simple product makes most themes look good. Try your longest title, most complicated options and largest navigation category. Review those on mobile in Arabic too. Keep a list of changes the demonstration needed so the theme price is not mistaken for the complete implementation cost.
