How do you write useful Shopify product descriptions?

Product image next to clear description text and an approval mark.

Write what someone cannot reliably learn from the photos: fit, material, contents, care and any detail that changes the buying decision.

Use customer questions as your outline

If people ask whether an abaya is lined or whether an accessory is included, answer those questions directly. Separate verified facts from descriptive language: a fabric name does not prove a performance claim. Use a consistent structure across similar items, but check each product’s own details. Have the person who knows the garment approve the final version, especially after translation. Leave an unknown detail for confirmation rather than inventing a convincing answer.

Replace vague praise with answerable questions

Perfect fitWhich measurements, cut and size guidance apply to this product?
Everything you needWhich accessories or components are actually included?

Turn specifications into clear information

Shopify’s guidance covers product features, specifications and supported benefits. For your own item, collect verified material, dimensions, fit, care and included components. Explain an important detail in plain language, but do not turn a fabric name into an unsupported performance claim.

Answer the hesitation

Read actual customer enquiries and identify unanswered questions. Is the garment lined? Does the item include an accessory? Is it ready to ship or made to order? Put the most important answers near the buying decision and leave secondary background further down the page.

Edit for consistency

Use a shared structure across a product family while keeping the facts unique. Translate the meaning accurately, including care and size terminology. AI can help draft, but someone who knows the product should approve every factual claim. Keep a record of unresolved details instead of filling them with plausible guesses.

Answer the purchase-stopping question

Read recent customer enquiries and use the recurring questions to improve the description. State measurable or verified details plainly and explain what is included. Avoid filling space with claims like premium or perfect when customers still cannot tell the dimensions, material or suitability of the item.
