Choosing a platform

Shopify vs Wix for a small business: what should you compare?

Two website options compared side by side.

It depends on whether the main job is presenting the business or operating a store. Test the same requirements on both options.

Put a realistic task in front of each option

Ask for one product with options, one service page and the buying route your Qatar customer would use. Check payment eligibility and Arabic layout in the actual plan, not in a demonstration for another country. Then have the future editor change a price or a page. Compare recurring costs, extensions and leaving the platform. The simpler option is useful when it handles your real work; the larger commerce setup is useful when you actually need its capabilities.

Test the same brief

Use a representative product, service page and mobile navigation task. If the project is mostly a business presentation with occasional enquiries, include that editing workflow. If selling is central, review inventory, options and order handling more deeply.

Verify the local requirements

Confirm payment eligibility, supported integrations, language layout and shipping configuration for your actual business. A feature available in another country or plan is not sufficient evidence for your Qatar setup.

Compare ongoing ownership

Review subscriptions, extensions, support and export options using current terms. Ask the future editor to maintain a page in each candidate. Document what you would give up or add with either choice rather than buying on a promotional starting price alone.

Check where the small store may become complex

A small catalogue can still need unusual customisation, delivery or business integrations. Test those requirements before choosing on size alone. Ask what changes if the catalogue or workflow grows and what would need rebuilding; current simplicity is valuable only when it matches the business.
