Choosing a platform
What should you review when moving WordPress content to Shopify?
Not necessarily. Products, articles, media and old links can need different migration work. List them separately before choosing the method.
Check a full article, not just its title
Pick a post containing images, an embedded form and internal links. Compare the migrated result with the original, including formatting and destinations. Shortcodes or plugin elements may need replacement rather than a plain-text copy. Keep valuable older URLs mapped to relevant new pages. Reconcile the approved article list with what actually moved, and test any purchase or enquiry route linked from the content. Product-import success does not establish that the publication survived intact.
Audit the content
Identify pages to keep, combine, update or retire. Record authorship, permissions, dates and language versions where relevant. Check whether embedded forms or shortcodes depend on WordPress plugins and require a replacement rather than a plain-text copy.
Map destinations
Preserve the intent of important pages and plan relevant redirects. Review images and downloadable documents for broken links. Keep an untouched export and reconcile the number of approved pages with what actually appears in the new site.
Verify after publication
Open old links and inspect the resulting content, formatting and metadata. Test any enquiry or buying route from migrated articles. Review Search Console after the move and distinguish expected URL changes from missing pages.
Audit a representative article after transfer
Choose a long article with images, headings and internal links. Check its new layout, public address and metadata before migrating the rest. Keep an inventory of what moved and what needs manual work. Product import tools should not be assumed to cover every part of an existing publishing site.
