Operations and next steps
What should customer accounts do in a Shopify store?

Use an account when it helps a real task, such as reviewing an order or managing an ongoing service. Do not add registration without a clear reason.
Try new, returning and locked-out customers
Check how each enters, what information is visible and how access is recovered. Review app compatibility with the chosen account setup. A login for an external service is not automatically shared with the store. Explain support without asking customers to send passwords. If an account is required for a particular purchase, make that clear before the visitor reaches a frustrating surprise at the end of the journey.
Define the customer value
List order review, address handling or other tasks the account should support. Decide whether account use is necessary for the transaction. Avoid requesting registration merely because a template includes a prominent login button.
Check the actual account setup
Review current Shopify account options and compatibility with required extensions. Test a new customer, returning customer and failed access attempt. Make the recovery route understandable in the languages you support.
Protect information and expectations
Verify that people see only their own appropriate data. Explain support routes without requesting passwords in messages. A customer account is different from staff access, and an external service login is not automatically shared with it.
Choose the account benefit first
Identify what a returning customer gains, such as access to past orders or a feature your setup supports. Then decide when to invite them to sign in. Adding an account requirement without a clear benefit can introduce another step before a straightforward purchase.
