Planning your store

What should you check before launching a Shopify store?

Launch checklist with completed checks and an approval mark.

Try to buy from it as a new customer, then follow the order as the merchant. A homepage review only covers part of the launch.

A launch review with a clear result

Pick a product with options, choose a delivery address and complete an appropriate test order. Confirm what the customer sees and what the fulfilment team receives. List remaining issues by consequence: a broken payment route blocks launch, while a minor spacing change may not. Ask the owner to approve prices, product facts and policies. Keep someone available after publication to respond to unexpected errors rather than treating launch as the last task.

Review what customers see

Check collection links, product options, prices, availability and delivery explanations. Open policy and contact links from mobile. Confirm that images match the product being sold and that the displayed language remains consistent across templates. Replace placeholder banners or unsupported claims before customers arrive.

Review what happens after purchase

Shopify’s setup checklist includes products, payments, shipping and other configuration. Walk through the process with whoever fulfils orders. Confirm where a new order appears, how stock is handled and who responds to customer questions. A beautiful storefront cannot compensate for an unclear dispatch process.

Make launch an owned decision

Classify findings as blocking, important follow-up or optional polish. Broken payments and unreachable products are different from minor spacing preferences. Obtain approval from the person responsible for commercial details, preserve a rollback route and monitor the first period after launch for unexpected errors.

Do a complete rehearsal

Ask a person who did not build the store to follow a purchase from a campaign link. Have the operations team follow the resulting order through its supported test process. Record who fixes each issue and which failures block launch. An attractive homepage cannot compensate for an order nobody receives.
