Planning your store
What should you prepare before hiring a Shopify agency?

You do not need a perfect presentation. You need enough accurate information for someone to understand what you sell and how you deliver it.
A brief the developer can actually use
For each product, gather its name, photos, price, options and delivery status. Mark missing details rather than filling them with guesses. Next, write down three things customers struggle to understand today. A reference site helps explain your preferences, but include what you like about it: the menu, product gallery or buying flow. That is more useful than asking for an identical copy of another brand.
Build a content inventory
Collect the logo, brand colours, product photographs, product names, descriptions, sizes and delivery details. Shopify’s description guidance includes specifications and supported benefits; use that as a prompt to gather missing product facts. Identify which information is approved and which still needs an owner’s decision.
Describe customer journeys
Explain how shoppers discover products and what they need to compare. A small made-to-order collection has different questions from a large ready-stock catalogue. Specify languages, markets, product options and any required connections to fulfilment or accounting. Mark essential features separately from ideas you might add later.
Agree working responsibilities
Name the person who approves design and the person who checks product data. Ask how access will be granted, how revisions are collected and what handover includes. Share the store URL first; use an appropriate permission-based access method when work begins rather than sending passwords in a message.
Prepare one complete product
Before sending a folder of images, assemble one product with its name, price, options, photographs and delivery notes. This gives the team a realistic design sample and reveals missing information early. Assign an owner and deadline for the remaining catalogue instead of assuming the agency will infer it.
