Business websites
Who should own your website accounts and content?

Make the accounts and handover explicit. Paying for a site does not automatically explain who controls the domain, licenses or recovery access.
Ask what happens if the supplier changes
Could another person update the site, renew the domain and restore access without chasing the previous agency? List the accounts and the business owner for each. Distinguish files created for you from licensed fonts, media or extensions with their own terms. Agree which source files, instructions and configuration records are included. Use permissions for supplier access rather than making the business dependent on one shared password or a contractor’s private email.
Inventory the dependencies
List the domain, hosting, CMS, payment tools, analytics and purchased assets. Identify the registered owner and permissions for each. Some software and media are licensed, so review their actual terms before promising unrestricted reuse.
Use permissions instead of shared passwords
Give suppliers the access needed for the task and retain business recovery methods. Record who can publish changes or approve spending. Review access when contracts end; removing a contractor should not disable the site.
Specify the handover
Request source files where agreed, editing instructions, configuration records and renewal details. WordPress’s open-source model does not automatically transfer a supplier’s separate hosting or stock-media contracts. Check the complete arrangement, not only the platform name.
Make a handover inventory
List the domain, hosting or platform, source files where applicable, third-party services and billing accounts. Record the owner and the access the business receives for each. Agree what happens when the relationship ends. A final invoice alone does not clarify licensing, account ownership or the work needed to change suppliers.
